River Run, Gary Player’s bump & run style of play is showcased at his 18 hole 6,705-yard masterpiece and is one of the legendary golf experiences in the Ocean City area. Spectacular views, first-class conditioning and a skillful design all combine to make River Run a legendary experience.
A friendly warm-up on the par-35 front nine, modeled after the links style found in Scotland, is followed by a sterner test of majestic tree-lined fairways and natural marshes found on the homeward nine. Make no mistake, the front nine is not lacking in drama with holes like the downhill par-3 fourth hole, playing its entire length over water at 222 yards from the back tees, and the 384-yard, par-4 seventh, a slight dogleg right with water in play on both the drive and second shots. River Run’s contrasting back nine rolls through wooded terrain and the signature hole can be found at the 13th, this par-4 requires a precise shot off the tee to leave you with a lofted iron approach shot over marshland to a shallow green that is guarded in the front and on two sides by marsh and water.

For two years in a row, Pam’s has stepped up to the plate and once again, they hit a line drive to knock it out of the park! Another fine job of setting up my golf vacation for my girlfriend and myself.
This season we were treated to a round of golf at River Run. It was like finding a new “hidden jewel” – though I am sure it is no secret in the O.C. community. Not only is this our new favorite golf course in Ocean City, but there was a hidden jewel there. First and foremost, the course was maintained beautifully. Adding to the ambiance of this course are numerous “mini vineyards” strategically placed among the course. The course is very challenging and satisfied my golf appetite, while at the same time proving amenable to my girlfriend, a “newer” golfer, who played very well.
After we rolled into the Caddyshack, we had to look no further for a wonderful little dinner than right there in the clubhouse at the Starr Restaurant. It’s always a treat when you hit a place at an opportune moment. Don’t be fooled that the Starr Restaurant, this is a legit little restaurant. This quaint, classy little place has all you need for a fine quality dinner after a round of golf. Trust me. Kudos to the wait staff who made our dinner so pleasant and fun! We did not have an exotic meal, but the food was prepared with perfection.
We were fortunate enough to say that thank you to the proprietor, as we were treated to a sample of some of the homegrown rose wine from those vineyards on the course! How nice was that?
Clearly a hidden jewel! … And one of the best parts of our golf getaway this May.
Your best round at River Run will come if you approach it like chess - always be thinking about the next move ahead. Figure out where the best approach angle is from the fairway to the green, then hit your tee shot to that spot, sometimes this may mean keeping the driver in the bag!
